I am reminded every Monday as I write this blog, how important it is that I remember to pray for YOU! I make that a firm commitment every Monday to pray for as many of you as I possibly can. I pray that God will give me names and sometimes I cheat and look at names on the email list. And I pray that God will give me insight into how to pray for you but know that I am always open to you sharing with me specific ways I can pray for you! So feel free to email me back if you have a way that I can pray for you today.
This morning God also reminded me of how important it is to live life with intentionality. I began to think about it and pray about it and do some research and I wanted to share some of that with you today. Let me start by saying that intentionality does not mean that we are never called to be spontaneous. I do believe spontaneity is good and useful and can be fun. When I was younger I was much more spontaneous and probably a lot more fun to be around because of it. So don’t think I am saying we need to take that out of our lives. But living life with intention is important. I believe that many people simply live their lives based on the tyranny of the urgent. Whatever screams out the loudest is what gets attention and time and energy. We end up bouncing around putting out fires rather than living life to the full. Our time and money and energy do not get properly used because we haven’t figured out what is most important. Having a good marriage requires work and intentionality. If you are simply responding when your spouse finally cries out then you will have a rollercoaster marriage. Being a good parent requires a lot of love and flexibility but it also requires intention. As parents we need to look past today and realize that the next phase in our child’s life is coming very quickly and we need to be prepared for it or it will come and go and we will have missed the opportunity that will be gone forever. When it comes to our spiritual walk and what we do for God, this is an area that requires all that we are and all that we have.
God’s word reminds us in Luke 14:28-30 (NIV): “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’” This is why we have the word “intentional” in every one of our Vision steps. “Intentional living is part of Christian life. Being intentional is knowing why you do something, making a decision to do it and planning on how to get it done. Like knowing why you should evangelize (witness), making a decision to do it, and taking steps (planning/strategizing). This is a godly way to live.”
“We see in the Bible that God was, and still is intentional. Jesus lived intentionally (the reason for everything He did or said during His time on earth was ‘to do the will of the Father’), He never wasted time waiting for His time to come, but He was working till the time came.” Can you imagine Jesus coming to earth and not being intentional in how he lived every single moment? That is something I can’t even imagine but at the same time I am called to be like Christ. We are also reminded to, “Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people)” Ephesians 5:15 (AMP).
“We have to decide to be intentional in everything we do. Rather than just fold hands, cross our legs, allowing things to pass by waiting for others to act so we’d just follow along. God really cares about what you are going to do today, tomorrow, next week, and in fact, the rest of this year. God wants you to be intentional.” Let me encourage you today to begin a more intentional lifestyle. Don’t let your day be one of reacting to the storms that life will surely bring your way. Make plans now to make the most of every moment!!
Thanks to all of you who joined us for Harvest America last night! We had a great time and the report was that almost 3400 people made decisions last night to follow Christ! How exciting to be a part of all that God is doing.
