“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it”!! And the psalmist goes on and says, “You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. (Psalm 118:24, 28-29 NIV) It seems we often quote these words but today I want to encourage you to praise God today. Rejoice in today!! This is the only day you are promised. Make it count for eternity!!

What a great day of worship yesterday as we celebrated our graduates! Thanks Andy Hutchison for leading us in that worship and thanks to Jon West and our Youth for helping to lead us while we honored them and their accomplishments. Graduation is such an exciting time in life. I can remember way back to my high school graduation. I have had a number of graduations since then and I can remember all my children and their graduations. Most recently my daughter Gabby’s graduation which I could not attend and even my grandson graduating from pre-school – ha. Graduations are important because they remind us of achievement and growing and learning and moving forward in life. They remind us that settling in and stopping forward movement are always a bad idea. Each of us should continue to grow and learn and progress in our walk with the Lord. I think for many of us when we become adults we settle into this routine and we almost have this feeling of arrival. We stop the feeling of wanting to grow. We settle into our lives and we no longer challenge ourselves each day. The greatest part of graduation, beyond that feeling of accomplishment, is that feeling of what comes next? What new adventure will be going on in my life next? I think for many adults we lose that sense of what is next? I want to encourage each of you today to be asking God for “what is next?” God, what is the next adventure you are calling me to? Don’t get locked into the tedium and mediocrity of doing the same-old same-old year after year. Let the power of the Holy Spirit breathe into your life today and create a new hunger within you. Let God speak into you a new and fresh thing. God is always in the business of doing new and amazing things and He wants you to be a part of that!!

I want to stop right here in the middle of this blog and just offer up a quick prayer for those in need today. I don’t know whether your need is physical or financial or spiritual or something else but I know God is bigger than your need. As someone reminded me this past week, our stress often just reveals a lack of faith and trust in God. If you are like me I want to work everything out but you may be in a situation where you can’t work it out and we have to learn to trust God in those situations and in all of life. I am praying for you today in your time of need. May God continue to show you (and me) that He is a God who is worthy of your trust. He is worthy and capable to meet your need today! Turn to Him and let Him do a great and mighty thing!!
