July 8, 2019

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24) Every day the Lord gives us here on this earth is a day to rejoice. He is a good God and on this Monday He has given us another day to rejoice and praise His name!!

As I mentioned last week, Jennifer and I are facing the biggest life-change we have ever experienced. Many have asked me how excited am I, or have told me how excited they are for us, and to be honest with you my emotions run more towards the terrified. I mentioned last week about leaving our family and how monumental that is for me. Today I want to talk about the other thing that terrifies me and in essence it is really about trusting God on a whole new scale. Our whole lives have been spent in vocational ministry where we have had to rely on God to supply our needs. There were days in the past with 6 small children and trying to survive on a Youth Pastor’s salary it was pretty tough. But now we face a bigger challenge . . . relying totally on the gifts of individuals and hopefully some churches. Today I want to talk about how you can partner with us (this will be the one and only time I address this subject in this blog).

When we began this journey of really seeking where God would have us go next we quickly realized at some point we would have to raise support. Some of you may be thinking, but preacher don’t you have any retirement? Let me just say again, raising six children on a ministers salary doesn’t leave a lot of room for luxuries like retirement. When it came time to decide on saving for retirement or providing for our children we chose the latter. Let me add here, we are not retiring . . . we are going to Jamaica to work. So here we are, looking for those who will partner with us. When it comes to partnering with us we are asking people to do 3 things.

First, and most important, we need prayer warriors. We need people who will lift us up in prayer on a daily basis. If you can do nothing else, my hope is that you will commit to pray for us. We truly believe that God is in control and He is the one who will provide for our needs and He is the one who will correctly order our steps. He is the one we are relying on and we believe He will supply our needs. We ask that you pray for us during this time of raising support, that God will give us what we need to survive. We ask that you pray for us during this time of transition. We ask that you pray for us as we seek how God would have us minister to the children there and to the people of the community. If you would like to sign up for our newsletter, where specific prayer requests will be given each month, please let me know.

Second, we want to ask you to consider organizing or coming with a mission group to Jamaica to minister there. I still truly believe you cannot go on a short-term mission trip and not come back changed and more excited about ministry locally. Obviously we would love to see all of you at some point in Jamaica but we are praying God would lay it on your heart to come experience what life is like on the International Mission Field. Hopefully FBCWS will sponsor a group to come down. Maybe the FBCWS youth can begin planning and saving for a mission trip. Maybe you have a small group or a civic group that would be interested. We want as many people as possible to come and be involved in reaching Jamaica and loving on these children.

Third, and last, we are asking people to support us financially. We are not asking you to give us money but rather we are asking that you pray about how God wants you to invest in this ministry. Obviously we cannot get to Jamaica without a lot of people supporting us. We are accepting one-time gifts but the thing we want most is partners who will commit to supporting us on a monthly basis. It is my belief that as you give you will be more likely to then pray and to then be fully committed to truly being a partner in ministry. It is funny how it works with our money. The Bible says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21) When we invest in anything with our money then we become more committed to that. I do think that as you give, even if you can only give a little each month, you will remember us and Jamaica when that money comes out of your account and you will have a tangible reminder to pray for us. And ultimately it is those prayers, more than the money, that will sustain us and will keep us in the center of God’s will. I can share a lot more with you about how to give if you are interested. Feel free to let me know and I will be happy to sit down with you and let you know about where your money would go and what our needs will be. Don’t forget about Vacation Bible School this week! It started last night but it’s not too late to register and bring your child or grandchild or neighborhood kiddos!! It is going to be a great week where they will have some potentially life-changing experiences. I still remember the many VBS’ I was involved in as a child. I loved the bible stories and the crafts and the fun music. I believe those times were a big part of the pieces that set the foundation for my salvation experience. We are all about seeing children come to Christ! Join us!!

Last Words: Happy Birthday this Friday, July 12th, to my middle daughter, Gabrielle Short!! I thank God every day for you in my life!! I also forgot to mention that yesterday (July 7th) was my oldest daughter’s Wedding Anniversary!! Happy Anniversary to Lauran and Allen Fuller!! I pray that God will give you many more wonderful years together!! It’s hard to believe it’s been 12 years already.

I am ON MISSION Today! Are You?

Blessings
