Sometimes Mondays are a chance for sort of a "new start" as you get going. Other times it feels like we all need some extra help as we begin the work week. Here is a great word from God's Word: "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 'The Lord is my portion,' says my soul, 'therefore I will hope in him.'" (Lamentations 3:22-24 ESV) Let your hope be in Him today!
Yesterday we officially kicked off our fall emphasis called "100 Happy People." We are adapting this from Max Lucado's campaign this past spring at his church in San Antonio. The idea behind this emphasis is that we are called to be spreading joy and happiness in the world around us. We are to be "salt" and "light" right where we are. When was the last time you made a conscious effort to bring joy and happiness into the lives of those you come in contact with each day? This is intentional and on purpose. It is living out our calling one person at a time. It is living beyond "self" and seeing the people around us each day. It is doing something a little "extra."
This 100 Happy People Challenge kicks off a week from Sunday, on October 18th. For 40 days we are going to seek to, as Max says, "drive the happiness truck." We will be actively looking to bring happiness and joy into the lives of 100 people. And no, Stephen, you can't get a group of 100 people together and do it all at once. Nice try. The goal here is to go that "extra mile." Do a little bit more. It's not complicated but it requires a commitment and it requires some effort. Mainly it requires a focus on bringing joy with you everywhere you go for 40 days.
As a part of this challenge we are also asking that during the 40 days each person will commit to sharing their experiences with others. Maybe it's in your family or your bible study group or your Sunday school class or maybe it's on social media, Facebook, Twitter, etc. And then we're also asking that you just keep track of each encounter. Write it down. Keep track so that you can look back on each experience.

I'm hoping that each of you will commit to taking the 100 Happy People Challenge with me. As someone reminded me yesterday, it's only 2.5 happy people per day. Now I don't know how you make half a person happy but that's not very much is it? For some of you this will be a little easier than for others. Even Max said it was twice as hard as he imagined. And yet he also said it was 100x more rewarding than he dreamed. Take the challenge and as I said yesterday, at the end of 40 days there will be 101 happy people and you will be the happiest!
We are leaving this week to go to Colorado to visit with our daughter and son-in-law. We are looking forward to a great time with them. This is my first time to get to go up there since they moved over a year ago. We will miss our church family this Sunday but I have a couple of great replacements! This also means no blog next Monday but I will be back in your inbox soon!
