December 28, 2015

It’s 80 degrees and less than 48 hours later it’s snowing. Does this happen in other places? It was pretty wild to wake up to snow this Monday morning but it was kind of fun in a weird sort of way. I hope your week is off to a great start!!
It is hard to believe that 2015 is almost in the books. As I look back on some of the highlights of the year I am reminded of how good God is. Just the fact that I am alive, well, and loved is an amazing year that each of us can appreciate. My prayers go out to those of you who are struggling or in pain. I’m thinking in particular of Cathy Vasquez this morning. We saw her last night at the hospital in Dallas and I was thinking how she needed to be writing a book about her physical struggles, but I’m not sure anyone would believe it was true. Pray for Cathy today. As I continue to look back over 2015 I am thankful today for our new grandson, Eli James Hixon, who was born just a few weeks ago. What a precious blessing from God. I am also thankful for the amazing Mission Trip we were able to take to Panama this past June. It was an incredible week that went by much too quickly. Just an FYI here: Please pray for us as we are planning another Mission Trip for 2016. More to come on this soon! I also thank God for our Good News Clubs which began for our church this year. I pray that God will continue to allow us to go into the schools and share the gospel message. What a joy and privilege. May we never take it for granted! On a personal note, the year brought a lot of fun times from concerts to football to renewing my passion for motorcycles! And the year began with a bang . . . at an amazing wedding. My youngest son, Caleb, was married to the former Olivia Katherine Welp in a beautiful ceremony. Happy First Anniversary to them this coming Sunday! I could go on but I hope you will take time today to look back over 2015 and thank God for all His many blessings. Each year, each day, each moment is a gift from God to be treasured. Rejoice in Him today and bring that joy into the life of someone else!!
Just a couple of quick reminders.
This coming Sunday we are truly privileged to be hosting Evangelist Michael Gott. He will be at FBCWS for our 10:50am service and I want to encourage you to be there and bring a friend. I am excited and I have been praying for many weeks now that God would use this as we begin 2016. As Michael says, “Let us never be silent as long as God gives us breath to exalt Jesus Christ! We never stop emphasizing God’s pursuit of lost mankind, not sinful man’s seeking God!” I hope you are praying even now!!
And also let me remind you that it is not too late for end-of-year giving. Most of you know that we do not beg for money. I will let you know that it has been a rough year financially for our church but the thing that should motivate each of us to give is our love for God and our desire to be faithful stewards of what He has given us. If you can’t make it to the church you can always visit our church website (www.fbcws.org) and make a donation there through PayPal.
I pray that you have a safe and wonderful New Year’s celebration! #BoomerSooner
