Why is Jesus the Best News for us?

In order to see the greatest news, we need to understand what makes it great.

  • Bad News: Our sin has separated us from God.
"...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
"...the wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23)
  • Worse News: We can do nothing to remove our sin.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing,; it is the gift of God." (Ephesians 2:8)
  • Good News: At the cross, Jesus did for us what we couldn't do for ourselves.
Jesus died on the cross and shed his blood to pay for our sins.
"...the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." (1 John 1:7)
  • Best News: Through faith, we freely receive forgiveness and eternal life.
"...the free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

How do I accept Jesus' Free Gift?

Romans 10:9 says, "...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Accepting Jesus as your Savior isn't a difficult process, it is a dedication of significant faith. If you're ready to declare your faith in Jesus, and receive His free gift of forgiveness and eternal life, pray a prayer like this:

"God, I know I am a sinner, and I want to be forgiven. I believe Jesus Christ, your Son, died for my sins and is alive right now. I turn away from my sin and now confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and receive Him into my life. I ask you, Lord Jesus, to control my life and I thank you for giving me eternal life."

What now?

2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, "...if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

You're a new creation because of the loving sacrifice and abundant grace of Jesus. Living as a new creation means learning to live how God has called us to live so that we can honor Him and make Him known.

Here are some next steps we encourage you to follow:

  • Start reading God's word to know him more: There are a lot of tools to help you read God's word for all it is worth. If you don't have a copy of the Bible, we would love to provide you with one. Contact us and we'll arrange to get you one. • Get plugged in with a church: While we hope it is here at FBCWS, we just know it is important that you connect with a local church and devote yourself to attending regularly. As a believer in Christ, you're part of God's family, so it is important to unite with other believers in worship and and mission. Here at FBCWS we have Bible Study classes Sundays at 9:00am and Worship Service at 10:30am. On Wednesday nights we have a Bible Study that meets at 6:00pm.
