Since 1868, we have been ministering to the families of western Tarrant County.

Our History

Six charter members established this congregation in 1868 and named it New Prospect Baptist Church. They met in Grant's School, a one-room log cabin that also served as a community center. In 1905, the church acquired land for the purpose of building a permanent house of worship in the White Settlement community. Three years later the name was changed to White Settlement Baptist Church. A lightning strike in May 1946 caused the church building to burn to the ground, but that didn’t stop the church family from meeting. Members met in an adjacent school facility while plans were made for a new building, which was completed in 1953.

The congregation maintained a fairly small membership until the 1940's and 1950's when nearby development of consolidated aircraft corporation, Carswell Air Force Base and associated industries brought a surge in the area's population. During this time, White Settlement Baptist Church helped found a number of new congregations in the county and developed strong programs of education, mission and outreach to the community.

Known as the First Baptist Church of White Settlement since 1954, the congregation has played a significant role in the religious history of Tarrant county and continues to uphold the ideals and traditions of its founders.

We Believe…

Christ is head of the church

This means, among other things, that our church is under the authority of Christ any other body.

Since Christ is the head of the church, then church leaders and members should all seek to know the mind of Christ. (Philippians 2:5) When we know His mind, i.e. His will, then we know what the members of the body should be doing. We seek, therefore, harmony in the body of Christ as the muscles and limbs move to the rhythm of Christ’s commands.

In the Bible

We believe the Bible to be the divinely inspired written Word of God. It is true and trustworthy, all of it. It is the only written document that can have authority over the church or the conscience of believers. It is the book to which we go when we help someone understand how he or she can be saved. It is the product of authors who were carried along by the Holy Spirit to understand the mystery of what they had seen and handled. It is without error for it comes from the heart of God.

In the virgin birth

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ; His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit; His virgin birth; His sinless life; His substitutionary death on a cross; His bodily resurrection; His ascension to the right hand of the Father; and His personal, imminent return.

Jesus’ redemptive work did not end on the cross. His resurrection delivered God’s ultimate victory over sin and death.

In the priesthood of the believer

The Old Testament contains two passages that prophesy a coming time when all of God’s people will be priests (Exodus 19:5-6, Isaiah 61:5-6). The New Testament says those prophecies are fulfilled in the Christian church. 1 Peter 2:4-10 is the most explicit text, and Christians are called priests in five passages in the Revelation.1

We believe the following:

  • Every Christian is equal under God (Galatians 3:28).

  • Each believer has direct access to God through Christ (Hebrews 7:25-28).

  • Each Christian can go to God directly for forgiveness of sins. No human mediator is needed for this forgiveness (Hebrews 4:15-16, 1 Timothy 2:5).

  • Each believer is free and responsible for reading the Scriptures and can trust the Holy Spirit to provide guidance and interpretation (John 16:13, 2 Peter 1:20-21).

  • Christians are accountable to God for living out the Scriptures but are not accountable to any confession of faith written by humans.
Scripture is complete and needs no addendum.

The salvation comes from Christ alone

We believe the only path to eternal relationship with God is through His Son, Jesus Christ. This one path to right relationship with God begins with the blood of Christ. The blood of Christ refers to the literal shedding of the blood of Jesus as He died on a Roman cross some 2,000 years ago. That event happened. People witnessed it, talked about it, and wrote about it.

In Jesus, God offered His only Son as the one blood sacrifice for all of humankind’s sins through the ages. This sacrifice means that the price has been paid for our sins, that God will forgive us of our many failings and welcome us into a close and personal relationship with Him. Jesus conquered death and provided the way of forgiveness for sin through the power of His sacrifice and His resurrection from the dead.

That man was created by and for God

In that, it was by man’s disobeying God, every person incurred spiritual death, which is separation from God, and physical death as a consequence; and that all people are sinners by nature and practice.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23, ESV)

“Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfil the creative purpose of God. The sacredness of human personality is evident in that God created man in His own image, and in that Christ died for man; therefore every man possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love."
